The Crab
May 22, 2021
Just under the stone
lying on the beach,
was the crab.
It crawled out and bit the child.
Who screamed in pain.
‘It was only a crab
Not a shark biting your toes off.’
I thought.
The pain and the tears melted away.
At the sight of the ice cream.
Held out by his mom.
Who had just finished her swim.
A frozen moment
That will stay with me,
over the years.
The woman was my wife
And the child my son.
Me, I would like to think,
an observer of life.
